My Hometown, Zaragoza

I was borned in Zaragoza on August 6, 1965. This city is the Capital of the former kingdom of Aragón, which in turn is NE of Spain.

Zaragoza was founded by Roman Empire soldiers on Caesar August times. They built it because of its strategic location: it is the center of the square formed by the four biggest Spanish cities (Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, and Valencia). Nowadays, Zaragoza is a middle size city, with around 700 thousand inhabitants. If you plan to visit the city, you may want to use this map.

Zaragoza is mainly famous for three things: the Ebro river, "El Pilar," and Mr. Goya. The Ebro river passes through the city, and is the second largest Spanish river. El Pilar is an expectacular basilic always surrounded by tourists and pigeons. [Click here if you want to see a picture of the "El Pilar's Virgin," next to the cutest girl in (a near) town carried by an "Infantico" (a sort of chorus-altar boy).] An image both of the Ebro river and El Pilar is right to your right. In the image, you can also see Zaragoza's Roman bridge.

The great painter Goya lived in the 19th century. He was borned in Fuendetodos, a town that belongs to the Zaragoza province. His astonishing work is definitely a must-see, and has been shown all over the world. If interested, click on the image to access Goya's incredible way of seeing his world and time.
